Care workers have been sounding the alarm about gaps in the system for years. When the pandemic started, many were left without support. We need investments in public services to make sure no one is ever left to struggle alone.

We need care workers

Care work includes health care and mental health, child care, early childhood education, care for the elderly and people with disabilities, domestic work and other social services. Many of these jobs are underpaid and undervalued and the work is largely unrecognized. These jobs support our families and communities. We need the government to invest in the care economy and stop the care crisis.

We can get public health care off life support

Keeping Canadians healthy is good for communities. When people can treat their issues early they can avoid emergencies later. After years of cuts, the health care system can’t support their needs. The government needs to invest in stronger public health care and create national standards for long-term care that ensure people always come before profits.

We can help struggling parents

Without affordable child care, parents – mostly women – are unable to work. Across the country, finding child care spaces is becoming more difficult and more expensive. Creating accessible, affordable, quality child care spaces is good for children, their families and communities. All parents should be able to work, knowing that their children are safe and well-cared for.

Take Action

Provincial cuts and privatization set the stage for the disaster we saw as COVID-19 hit Canada’s long-term homes. We need a better plan.
